The Jealous Sound
L.A.-based pop-punk band (emphasis on the pop) The Jealous Sound has seemed set up for success and destruction for a while now. After signing to Mojo Records in 2001, The Jealous Sound fell victim to the Jive Records buyout of Mojo. This transaction left the band pigeonholed on the same label as The Backstreet Boys, even after The Jealous Sound had spent the year 2000 touring with bands like The Get Up Kids and Death Cab For Cutie. After escaping Jive, though, and retreating to its former label, The Jealous Sound released a debut full-length in 2003 and has been fighting the good fight since then. Where The Jealous Sound’s strength lies is in a savvy songwriting ability: laying catchy vocals over radio-alt guitar and driving percussion. The music is not going to challenge you but, at its best, it’ll get your head nodding all the same.
