Artist The Jungle Rockers

Despite a greaser aesthetic that makes its members appear as if they simply materialized on the Continental Club stage one dark and stormy evening, The Jungle Rockers originally formed in Cleveland. It’s appropriate, seeing as that Rust Belt city is the place where Alan Freed first described the revved-up R&B of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley as “rock ’n’ roll.” For its part, The Jungle Rockers doesn’t play much that would sound out of place on a Freed-curated playlist, grinding out shuffling, exotica-flourished rockabilly whose loftiest ambition is to provide a good necking soundtrack. A copy of the band’s latest, Guns And Gold, would look great hanging from the rear-view of any hot rods hitting the Continental after Day Of The Drags.
