The Last Waltz

Once heralded as the shining achievement of the concert film genre, Martin Scorsese’s The Last Waltz has since come under the gun of The Band purists for mainly focusing on the group’s guitarist Robbie Robertson. Even the unofficial leader of The Band, Levon Helm, has called the film a slap in the face. While the consensus of how the subjects were treated may be split down the middle, The Last Waltz still packs some of the greatest musical acts ever to hit the scene. Acts like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, and a seemingly drugged-out Neil Young make guest appearances that are still hotly discussed today. It may not be the best Band showing, but it’s still one hell of a rock show.
