The Mighty Diamonds
Defining their chosen genre of roots-reggae in multiple ways, The Mighty Diamonds have defied industry odds by not only staying active since starting out in Trenchtown in 1969, but by keeping the original line-up of Judge, Tabby, and Bunny Diamond together. The key must be The Mighty Diamonds highly accessible roots sound that softens the harder edge of groups like Black Uhuru with ringing vocal harmonies and songs about the nice things in life, among them love and getting high. The group’s newer efforts, like The Moment Of Truth, hold up just fine; keep your ears peeled for classics like “I Need A Roof” and the original “Pass The Kutchie,” before the man handed it over to Musical Youth and took the weed slang out of it.
