The Monkees

Almost 50 years after they burst, wackily, into the collective consciousness with a self-titled television show, The Monkees are back. Well, mostly back—Stocking cap-clad guitarist Mike Nesmith still keeps his distance from the group, but Davy Jones, Peter Tork, and Micky Dolenz are as gung-ho as ever. Of course, the group hasn’t done much musically in recent years, but they play all the hits on tour, which is just fine. The band’s fanbase may have even grown in recent years, considering the recent pro-Monkees sentiment coming out of quite a few rock critics and indie pop bands. Those Boosters laud the group’s songwriting team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, as well as producer Don Kirshner, who would go on to host his own American Bandstand-like show, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert
