The Mynabirds
Singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn (formerly of Georgie James) helped shape musical collective The Mynabirds back in 2009, when she and producer/musician Richard Swift (currently of The Shins) recorded their debut album, What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood, in the Oregon hills over a summer. It’s a big album, with a sound that effectively nets together aspects of ’60s soul and Motown with early garage rock and rock ’n’ roll, all taped up as a backdrop to Burhenn’s rash, sultry voice. The collective feels effortlessly loose, but the layered detail in sound shows that everyone involved seems to know the score. With The Mynabirds’ new album, Generals, out now, and with Swift on board once again as producer, it’s very likely that the group will keep the momentum going.
