Much has been made of Wilco members’ occasional experimental tendencies. For current Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, though, experimentation is an end in itself. A former member of The Geraldine Fibbers and founder of numerous collaborative projects, including his ironically named instrumental combo The Nels Cline Singers, Cline has brought his edgy, dynamic style to more than 150 albums, including those by the likes of Thurston Moore, Lydia Lunch, and Mike Watt. And 2010 found Cline continuing to pad his résumé: In addition to playing on Watt’sFloored By Four and recording a musical soundtrack to accompany a book by David Breskin, Cline and his “singers” released their fourth LP for Cryptogramophone, Initiate.
