Artist The Octopus Project

  • The Octopus Project

Perpetually cast in bright, sparkling colors as it is floating along on buoyant pop hooks or diving into grungy, digital dissonance, The Octopus Project adds an intoxicatingly human edge to a genre that’s often about cold, technical precision—an edge dictated by the project’s credo, “Music Is Happiness.” Yet, it is also one of the most visual bands working today, often accompanied by lights and projections that crystallize the eternally unspooling Stan Brakhage films that its songs only suggest. Even the band’s album Hexadecagonbegan as an experimental piece designed for an eight-channel sound and eight-screen video system that was unveiled on the roof of a Whole Foods during South By Southwest in 2010.
