The Paperhead

Born in the 1990s, yet looking and sounding as if they emerged from a suburban garage during the Summer Of Love, the Nashville natives of The Paperhead play songs that are at turns hypnotic, hallucinogenic, and decidedly of another time. Recorded with fellow Music City past-conjurer and Cheap Time leader Jeffrey Novak, the band’s self-titled, Trouble In Mind debut is all Farfisa bleet and wobbly vocals. It’s freshman-level psychedelia, but The Paperhead’s members are freshman-level everything: The LP represents one last blast of pre-adulthood hedonism, a not-yet-long, slowly approaching-strange trip they’ve managed to extend into the summer of 2012 with the release of the 7-inch Pictures Of Her Demise.
