The Poison Arrows may be based in Chicago, but it certainly gets around. Bassist Patrick Morris is a former member of Don Caballero. Guitarist Justin Sinkovich was in Atombombpocketknife, founded Epitonic.com, worked at Touch And Go Records—where he got to know drummer Adam Reach—and is now a professor at Columbia College, while running File 13 Records on the side. Somehow the group still found time to make Newfound Resolutions, its recent second LP. Spurred on by personal drama, Sinkovich’s vocals are rife with cold, swaggering despair. As angular as any math-rock record and as punk as anything Naked Raygun ever put out, the record is a solid 70 minutes of good, old-fashioned, angsty, guitar-driven Chicago rock, made by three guys who are absolutely steeped in the stuff.
