Americans sure did a number on ska in the ’90s, when the genre’s third wave turned the laidback Jamaica-born music into an excuse for marching band kids to dress like their grandparents and make wacky faces while rocking out. Twin Cities ska band The Prizefighters returns to a simpler time on its debut album, Follow My Sound. With help from East Coast reggae producer King Django, the band blends a tried-and-true mix of rocksteady, soul, and R&B. That staccato guitar and bouncing organ may not be breaking new ground, but it’s still infectious.
