The Psychedelic Furs
Rose-colored nostalgia aside, The Psychedelic Furs crafted a viciously sarcastic and impressively propulsive rock assault in their prime, peaking in the ’80s with the monster soundtrack hit, “Pretty In Pink.” From its early days in the late ’70s through now, the band is dominated by Richard Butler’s distinctively asthmatic rasp, which bridged the romance of David Bowie with the sneering disdain of Johnny Rotten. That balance began to cement itself on the band’s Steve Lillywhite-produced 1981 LP, Talk Talk Talk, the record that launched the original, rougher ’round the edges version of “Pretty In Pink.”
