The Red Chord

You know the trick-or-treat makeup and stupid wraith costumes the Satanist-musicians in metal bands often wear? Well, the members of The Red Chord dress their no-frills deathcore grooves up in neither. Formed on the cusp of the millennium, in 1999, the Massachusetts-based metal outfit has delivered four punishing studio releases; the most recent, 2009’s Fed Through The Teeth Machine, found guitarist Mike “Gunface” McKenzie successfully integrating healthy melodic phrases into the compositions. On “Floating Through The Vein,” the band rips through 15 non-repeated transitions with grueling precision, at a velocity that makes the X-43A Scramjet seem like a battery-operated toy airplane. It won’t be long until NASA stooges come banging on The Red Chord’s door for some speed pointers.
