The Relatives

Plenty of soul groups claim to “testify,” but Rev. Gean West and The Relatives do it literally: The Dallas-bred ’70s gospel-funk band found its soul (and salvation) inside God’s Anointed Community Church Of God In Christ, where it stomped and hollered the holy spirit onto three electrifying, now-legendary singles before disbanding in 1980. Like Lazarus, The Relatives rose to walk among us behind 2009’s retrospective full-length, Don’t Let Me Fall, once again taking up the mission to deliver their powerful, intermittently psychedelic proselytization across secular stages, praise be.
