Artist The Rockford Mules

The Rockford Mules are gritty, tough soundin’ sonsabitches. The scene vets have a bar-honed sound that brings two musical camps to mind. The first is alt-country acts like Uncle Tupelo and Lucero, as the Mules bring Southern-fried riffs and twang to the forefront. The second is ’90 alt-rock, where an underlying Alice In Chains/Soundgarden adulation is evident. The end product isn’t something to endlessly repeat on an iPod, but it’s ideally suited as whiskey-swilling background music. The Mules’ latest LP is last fall’s Ma They Broke Me.
