Artist The Sea And Cake

The members of The Sea And Cake hate the band’s “jazzy” reputation, but if the shoe fits, right? Hopefully the band doesn’t mind its other designations as remarkably meticulous and consistent. It’s exactly those traits that have made The Sea And Cake such beloved characters on the Chicago indie-rock scene. The wait has been long since 2008’s excellent Car Alarm, but the band finally reconvened for its latest mini-album (not an EP, mind you), 2011’s The Moonlight Butterfly. John McEntire, Eric Claridge, Archer Prewitt, and Sam Prekop are just as flawlessly synched up as ever, even as the song structures become looser to make room for lengthy instrumental sections. The band’s back in the studio now hard at work on some new material, which will hopefully be released in some sort of longer format.
