The Shabelles
Madison power-pop goofballs The Shabelles have a tendency to mix comic lyrics about pool parties and pregnancy scares into their happy-go-lucky hooks, but leader Adam Schabow says the band is trying to get “less jokey and quirky” as it works on new songs. Following up on 2007’s Making Love With The Shabelles, the band has tried to take some cues from The Apples In Stereo, aiming for a more layered, produced sound, and working in more synths. Those atmospheric washes flesh out the sound on “Take It,” a track from the brand-new Breaking Up With The Shabelles that shows the group wasn’t just kidding around about getting more serious.
