Last Halloween, Seattle garage-rock gods The Sonics reunited for the first time since 1972—and none other than Little Steven jumped onstage to join them, which just goes to show how highly regarded the group is among those who truly love rock ’n’ roll. Bridging the gap between the saxophone-fueled frat-rock of the early-’60s and the more mind-bending garage groups that followed, The Sonics were never afraid to crank up their amps and shriek about strychnine and Satan—although one imagines the band’s members are taking it just a little easier now that they’re eligible for AARP membership.
