The Sunny Era
The Twin Cities have plenty of Britpop-sounding acts (The Idle Hands, The Arms Akimbo), but few bands that channel the Romani regions of Europe popularized by bands like DeVotchKa and Gogol Bordello. The Sunny Era is such a band, as the three-piece garnishes its indie-pop core with flourishes of gypsy-punk accordions and violins. The end result is a cosmopolitan treat. The band doesn’t dabble in worldly sounds for shits and giggles; it’s skillful enough to pull it off, as evidenced by its most recent release, 2011’s Gone Missing.
