As if engineered by some indie-pop Lou Pearlman, the fresh-faced youngsters in Oklahoma's The Uglysuit are a mass of bankable influences (The Shins, Conor Oberst), with enough spacey piano ballads and delicate guitar lines to score a hundredHouse montages. The band's self-titled debut landed on many 2008 "bands to watch" lists, proving that—believe it or not—starry-eyed young troubadours with hooks and sincerity aplenty are still in high demand.
