The Unnecessary Gunpoint Lecture
Some metal bands give listeners reason to wonder if they're pondering dense moral themes or Norse myths under their mega-technical riffage and syllable-melting screams. It's hard to imagine such lofty thoughts even taking root amid Madison band The Unnecessary Gunpoint Lecture's swarm of flesh-eating locusts, which spring from equal parts Pig Destroyer and Mr. Bungle. A bit like Boston's The Red Chord, TUGL defies most metalcore bands out there to keep up technically, but also corrodes some of that genre's pretension with a sick, near-antagonistic sense of humor—reflected in song titles like "Boogie The Squid" and vocals that go for tongue-seizure madness instead of stately import.
