The Wailers
The appeal of a Wailers concert lies in the opportunity to hear Bob Marley’s songs performed by people who were actually with him when they were recorded. Principals Aston “Family Man” Barrett and his brother Carlton were once the powerhouse rhythm section for Lee “Scratch” Perry’s legendary house band, The Upsetters, and (along with Junior Marvin and Earl Lindo) went on to become Marley’s Wailers. The group has buffalo-soldiered along in different incarnations—and to varying degrees of success—for decades following Marley’s death, but it’s hit its stride as a nostalgia act with plenty of enduring presence.
