Talking To You, Talking To Me, the second full-length album by Chandra and Leigh Watson, is a departure for the duo. While it features all the naked emotional honesty that characterized their first work, they’ve largely forsaken the stripped-down folk song style heard on their famed Jenny Lewis collaboration, Rabbit Fur Coat, and adopted an unusual new style that emphasizes more pop, soul, and even jazz elements. It’s hard to assess whether it’s a leap forward or a step back; bits of it work, while others just make you yearn for the early days. But it’s sure to make them more interesting live, and could finally get them the spotlight they deserve.
