Artist The Wedding Singer
Sure, The Wedding Singer is the Adam Sandler comedy with the rapping grandma. But it's also the first evidence that Sandler could play a man-child who possessed real, relatable emotions, a step toward the too-seldom-employed maturity that proved so winning in Punch Drunk Love. Sandler plays the titular crooner, who, after being ditched at the altar, falls for coworker Drew Barrymore. An '80s period piece that knows well enough not to let the Aqua Net get all the laughs, it's an exception to the annoying rules of its star's career.
