Artist The Werks

Even jam-band fans can be excused for a lack of familiarity with The Werks. Their agreeable, if somewhat generic, take on the genre is showcased on 2009’s Synapse, a collection of mellow grooves, and the band stays busy playing plenty of live shows every year (evident from the group’s 2010 live album), but the act is missing that certain something—like the bluegrass-tinged eclecticism of String Cheese Incident, or Phish’s quirky frontman Trey Anastasio—that would help them stand out. That lack of distinctive qualities has kept them from amassing the same kind of following enjoyed by their better-known brothers in jam, but The Werks should still prove a pleasant option for local fans of the genre.
