With a debut album titled The Wombats Proudly Present ... A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation, it’s not hard to figure out where this Liverpool trio is coming from. But, instead of falling into a humorless trap the way an American emo band would have done with similar topics, The Wombats offer up songs like “Let’s Dance To Joy Division,” lyrics like “If this is a rom-com / kill the director,” and tales of falling in love with strippers and causing a scene at an ex’s wedding. The group’s new follow-up, The Wombats Proudly Present ... This Modern Glitch, is just as playful. Though this style of danceable rock isn’t particularly original, The Wombats should have no trouble fitting in with the youthful energy of their crowd.
