Artist Them Crooked Vultures

  • Them Crooked Vultures

Them Crooked Vultures is another supergroup that sounds great in theory but in action isn't quite the sum of its parts. Comprising Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme, and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, the band plays beefy alt-rock with a nostalgic bent—perhaps too nostalgic. Their 2009 self-titled debut is nothing revolutionary, but the lynchpin is obviously Grohl, who returns to his Nirvana-era drummer's throne to guide the Vultures' blues-tinged, explosive hard rock with his usual iron fist. For all its lack of originality, it's still plenty of fun live—almost as fun as these three members of rock royalty seem to be having making it. They've enjoyed it so much, in fact, the group has already said it's working on a "more powerful" follow-up album.
