Brooklyn trio These Are Powers swoops through a minimalist noise void with feisty drums, shuddering guitars, and the half-beastly, half-tuneful vocals of Anna Barie—not to mention some truly harrowing bass textures courtesy of Pat Noecker, a former and founding member of Liars. There's enough primal impact in These Are Powers' sound to justify the genre tag the band dreamt up for itself: "ghost punk." TAP plays here behind the a new EP calledWorld Class Peoples/Candyman, another collection of rollicking songs—the band describes "Candyman" as "a naughty nursery rhyme set to a bombastic East meets reggaeton shuffle."
