A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist This Bright Apocalypse

It’s been a good time lately for young rock musicians to dabble in sounds borrowed from Africa (see: Abe Vigoda, Vampire Weekend), but Madison trio This Bright Apocalypse has been at it for a little longer. One reason it doesn’t play out very often is that bassist/singer/percussionist Luke Bassuener and his wife spend a lot of time actually going to Africa, volunteering in small villages in Ghana. The recent Asumaya collides African-inspired percussion and melodies with a Jawbox-style post-punk attack.
