This Will Destroy You

It can’t be any fun being a highly cinematic post-rock band that shares an area code with the titans of instrumental bombast, Explosions In The Sky, but San Marcos’ This Will Destroy You continues to keep comparisons to its stylistic forebear from metastasizing into discouragement. To that end, the guitar-driven quartet once again tapped EITS producer John Congleton to helm its new accompaniment to dimmed lights and chemical enhancement, Tunnel Blanket. The slowly gathering EBow storm of first single “Communal Blood” indicates that Congleton and the band have hit the post-rock pay dirt once more, tapping into an emotive vein through patient crescendos, and all without leaning on brainlessly gratifying pop hooks.
