Thomas Dolby

After being blinded by science in the ’80s, synth-pop pioneer Thomas Dolby has leered at the music business from different angles. In addition to founding a couple of successful tech businesses—including one that pioneered the polyphonic ringtone—he’s made records more or less in the same quirky vein. While his latest studio album, 2011’s A Map Of The Floating City, was his first since 1994’s Gate To The Mind’s Eye, a smattering of live releases and compilations, including the Live At SXSW concert disc with his Jazz Mafia Horns backing group, have kept Dolby visible.
