Three Dog Night
Allegedly taking its name from an indigenous Australian practice of sleeping in a hole surrounded by dingoes on extremely cold nights, Three Dog Night never came close to anything that exotic with its music. In fact, many of the band’s biggest chart successes came via covering other people’s songs—like “Mama Told Me Not To Come” by Randy Newman. That said, the band hardly played that song straight-up, adding a considerable amount of swagger to the tune. Though the band released two new songs in 2009—and is rumored to be working on a new album—it’s incredible string of hits is already more than enough to fill out a set and send folks home happy.
