Artist Throbbing Gristle
Terms like "shocking" and "edgy" became empty modifiers long ago, making it all the more intriguing to witness a band as genuinely original as Throbbing Gristle. The Manchester group evolved from the performance art group COUM Transmissions in 1975 and unleashed a stark, antagonistic, intense cocktail of noise and industrial music. Confrontational aspects of its performances garnered immediate attention, but the band’s pioneering use of sampling and synthesizers, caustic wit, and dedication to exploring art to its limit have made it a seminal influence. The early shows have TG playing the soundtrack to a screening of Derek Jarman’s In The Shadow Of The Sun; the late shows have a TG career retrospective.
