Thurston Moore
If Thurston Moore opened up a barbecue joint, it wouldn’t be surprising. Poet, blogger, author, Ecstatic Peace label chief, Feeding Tube record store partner, visual artist, musician: He’s all of these things, and probably many more. While the future of the most iconic item on his CV is in question—that of Sonic Youth bandmate/husband to Kim Gordon, who recently announced the dissolution of their marriage and possibly the band—the obvious silver lining comes with his increased involvement in side-project audio excursions and solo work, where he’s all over the map, but with a tendency for extreme, loud music. He threw a bit of a curveball with his latest, Beck-produced Matador LP, Demolished Thoughts, for which he dons an acoustic guitar and has built a small, chamber-ish ensemble to perform some of his most delicate, beautiful, and soothing compositions yet.
