The members of Tigercity don’t make disco-pop. They don’t make disco-rock. They don’t make disco-funk, or alt-disco, or grunge-disco. Tigercity makes disco, period. And what fun that is: The group’s 2007Pretend Not To Love EP was a danceable blast featuring pumped-thumped bass, slickly breezy harmonies, and gloriously stylized breakdowns. With a Hall And Oates meets Prince vibe that’s somehow devoid of any nudge-nudge-wink-wink irony, the quartet’s first full-length album, Ancient Lover, offers an optimistic air and sparkly gloss that’ll keep the club kids dancing through the winter.
