Todd Rundgren
A producer, musician, singer, and songwriter whose work has been covered by everybody from Big Star to The Isley Brothers, Todd Rundgren seemed poised for massive stardom in the early ’70s. But, at the time, he placed experimentation and reinvention above commercial concerns. In 2006, however, he succumbed to said concerns, touring for a while with a reboot of The Cars—presumably a gig to pay the bills. He then turned his eye back to solo work, putting out the 2008 LP, Arena, and producing 2009’s ’Cause I Sez So by the New York Dolls. Earlier this year, he reunited with the original members of Utopia, his ’70s prog-rock group, to benefit original member Moogy Klingman, who is fighting cancer. Also this year, Rundgren released a Robert Johnson cover album and has since headed out on the road.
