Todd Rundgren

Todd Rundgren

A producer, musician, singer, and songwriter whose work has been covered by everybody from Big Star to The Isley Brothers, Todd Rundgren seemed poised for massive stardom in the early ’70s. But, at the time, he placed experimentation and reinvention above commercial concerns. In 2006, however, he succumbed to said concerns, touring for a while with a reboot of The Cars—presumably a gig to pay the bills. He then turned his eye back to solo work, putting out the 2008 LP, Arena, and producing 2009’s ’Cause I Sez So by the New York Dolls. In early 2011, Rundgren reunited the original members of Utopia, his ’70s prog-rock group, to benefit original keyboardist Moogy Klingman, who died mid-tour after battling cancer. Rundgren also released a Robert Johnson cover album and has since headed out on the road.
