Tokyo Police Club

When Tokyo Police Club released its EP A Lesson In Crime in 2006, the media couldn’t help but compare the Toronto group to its garage-rock revival forefathers The Strokes. And while the comparison is still apt in capturing the band’s patterned basslines and bouncy tempos, TPC’s rowdy enthusiasm sets it apart from the pseudo-ennui of its commercial counterpart, with short bursts of song that tumble to unexpected endings usually no more than two minutes through. After releasing Elephant Shell on Saddle Creek in 2008, TPC got back to its rowdy roots on 2010’s Champ. Summer 2011 saw the band undertaking what its members called the “10 Days. 10 Covers. 10 Years” project, where the band released a cover tune of a song from the past decade every day for, you guessed it, 10 days.
