Artist Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind
Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind’s title is purposely obtuse, as is The Neo-Futurists philosophy on theater at large: It's an aggressively weird and plucky theater company that prides itself as being immediate and fusing “sport, poetry, and living-newspaper” into something audiences can watch. Pinning down The Neo-Futurists is moot, but the same can’t be said for its signature show. Since 1988, TMLMTBGB has sought to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes, but there’s a method to the high-concept madness: 30 numbers, each signifying an experimental mini-play the company will perform, are performed via audience requests that are hurriedly shouted between scenes. It’s not for everyone, especially if you can’t stand theater that beats you over the head with how weird it’s trying to be, but definitely worth dipping your toes into.
