Remember how bizarre the idea of a Jamaican bobsled team in Cool Runnings seemed? There’s just something inherently contradictory about a bobsled team from a tropical island. The flip side of that same dynamic is at play in T.U.G.G., a reggae band from Wisconsin. Just as it makes no sense for athletes who’ve never seen snow to train for racing down the ice, it’s a little odd to imagine the decidedly non-tropical climes of Wisconsin inspiring the kind of sun-kissed melodies and laid-back beachside rhythms associated with reggae. Still, it hasn’t stopped T.U.G.G. from producing four albums worth of reggae rock, working with legendary producer Mad Professor, and relentlessly touring the Midwest for fans of reggae’s warm sounds who are stuck in cold-weather climates.
