Turbo Fruits
Beginning as an offshoot of snot-nosed Nashville quartet Be Your Own Pet, Turbo Fruits became the main musical outlet for singer-guitarist Jonas Stein after BYOP’s 2008 implosion. Just as Stein’s former bandmates Jemina Pearl and John Eatherly did with Pearl’s solo debut, Break It Up, Stein hews close to his old band’s garage-born sound with Turbo Fruits, while also adding a dose of pent-up R&B aggression to his stripped-down punk. After that gritty groove caught the attention of traditionally blues-oriented label Fat Possum—which released Turbo Fruits’ sophomore LP, Echo Kid, in 2009—the band released the stomping single “Where The Stars Don’t Shine” on Stein’s Turbo Time Records in 2010 and a couple of split singles in 2011, but has toured more than recorded since then.
