Melding two dangerous pastimes—hockey and punk rock—Two Man Advantage plays mean. The NYC-based quintet understands the hidden connections between bondage gear and hockey equipment, and is understandably eager to use live shows to illustrate the similarities, often staging mock games on stage. Its obsession with the sport hews dangerously close to similarly hockey-themed Nomeansno side project The Hanson Brothers, but there are easy ways to tell them apart: The Hanson Brothers play spirited, Ramones-style songs that are goofy fun; Two Man Advantage barks out beer-soaked hardcore that’s a tad more humorless, but fans of lowbrow punk and high-sticking should also find plenty to like.
