Artist Tyevk

Detroit’s Tyevk (formerly Tyvek, a DuPont trademark) masks something more intriguing under its abundance of spare-parts garage-rock riffs and tinny production. Sure, the drummer seems to beat on just one tom and one hi-hat the whole time, and the band may as well be using cups on strings instead of amps, but 2009’s self-titled album actually reveals some kind of dynamic built within all this wreckage on songs like “Hey Una” and “Frustration Rock.” How this will balance out against all the material that still feels antagonistic and willfully half-formed is a matter of time and patience. Tyevk followed the album up with 2010’s Nothing Fits and 2011’s re-release of Fast Metabolism.
