Artist Urbanites

Urbanites claim they’re still finding themselves as a band, but their debut EP, The Years—released at this show—hardly sounds insecure. Borrowing heavily from U2, Coldplay, and The Killers might not be original or even interesting, but it’s a good starting point for a young band. The choppy guitars, sweeping vocals, and crisp production keep the group mired in attempting to achieve catharsis instead of actually achieving it—but they’re still good tools to have on the way to figuring out what kind of band they want to be. “Restless” offers a hint of their true potential, when Urbanites peel away all those familiar textures from the bands they love, and instead explore quieter, less bombastic territory.
