Vampire Weekend had a meteoric rise in 2008—a deal with the label XL, a performance on Saturday Night Live, and the cover of Spin—which fostered an inevitable backlash as the New York Ivy Leaguers hit major international music festivals in support of their self-titled debut. But there’s still a lot of demand for a sound that traffics in Talking Heads pop, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah spunk, and Graceland worldliness.
