Van Hunt

Grammy-winning R&B singer, producer, and songwriter Van Hunt has more DIY spirit (and surprising punk credibility) than most anti-establishment bands today. Not only did the 41-year-old Ohioan cover Iggy Pop’s “No Sense Of Crime” and record a duet with Nikka Costa on his second album, but after Blue Note Records (currently owned by EMI) left him high and dry with his third studio album, Hunt stuck it to the man and independently released What Are You Hoping For? on Godless Hotspot, his very own label. On the “totally mainstream” tip, though, American Idol’s Randy Jackson used to be his manager, so you know, “That’s hot, dawg.”
