Artist Vashti Bunyan
After being discovered by Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham and recording her 1970 album Just Another Diamond Day with members of The Incredible String Band and Fairport Convention, Vashti Bunyan was met with indifference and disappeared in a horse-drawn carriage to the countryside. More recently, freak-folkies like Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom discovered Bunyan’s lost masterpiece and rekindled her flame, which led to a comeback called Lookaftering, perhaps the best 35-years-in-the-making sophomore album of all time. The fable might sound too good to be true, but it’s easier to believe than Bunyan’s breathtaking voice.
