Vee Dee
Vee Dee has planted its feet firmly in the aesthetic of late ’60s rock ’n’ roll, much like its peers in Chicago’s booming garage-rock-revival scene, but its approach is a bit more spread out, a bit stonier. Unlike the 7-inch-hoarding, Ugly Things-reading Sonics acolytes who crank out power poppin’ singles on the daily, Vee Dee spent five years recording a sprawling “non-concept double album” and released it on Chicago’s Criminal IQ Records in 2009. Public Mental Health System’s sludgy proto-punk/psych-rock freakouts regularly wander past the five-minute mark, allowing for the band to stretch out and take its time blowing the minds of everyone within a mile radius.
