Verbow
Chicago band Verbow has been laying dormant in the past eight years—dissolving shortly after its third album, White Out—but returns from the dead for a one-off show behind the new Verbow Live At Schubas. The disc culls from various live shows the outfit played between 1998 and 2001, and serves as a reminder of how talented the band was at building emotionally charged rhythms without sacrificing vulnerability—even in a live setting. Verbow's greatest claim to fame, perhaps, is that it helped pioneer the cello as an out-and-out rock instrument, something member Alison Chesley has continued exploring as the similarly underappreciated Helen Money. Guided By Voices guitarist Doug Gillard rounds out the bill behind his solo album Call From Restricted.
