Vetiver

Vetiver

Vetiver doesn’t skew as strange as Devendra Banhart or Joanna Newsom, but ties among the three remain strong. Bandleader Andy Cabic has played and worked with them, both have returned the favor a few times over, and all three starred in the life-on-the-road documentary The Family Jams. But Vetiver is simpler and more approachable. The group’s terrific 2006 album, To Find Me Gone, wandered through comely melodies hung on sturdy acoustic hooks, as did 2009’s Tight Knit, which wandered out of the backwoods to expand the band’s sound to include poppy jangle and horn-propped funk. Vetiver plays here behind its brand-new The Errant Charm, which furthers the advances of Tight Knit with swirling ambience and spacey pop.
