HOLIDAY SALE AT THE ONION STORE

Artist Violent Soho

Violent Soho occasionally sounds overly familiar, especially when compared with its Aussie brethren The Vines, who also looked to the '90s heyday grunge for inspiration. Formed long after that heyday in 2004 by four high-school friends from the Brisbane suburbs, Violent Soho released an EP, Pigs And T.V., to critical acclaim two years later. Its full-length debut, We Don’t Belong Here, found considerable play on Australia’s airwaves in 2008, but little notice here in the States. That may change this year's self-titled sophomore album, featuring lead single “Jesus Stole My Girlfriend”—a snarling track reminiscent of early Smashing Pumpkins.
